Head Out Dog Purse (Lion)





Small Dog or Cat Pet Purse (4-10 lbs.)

Material Needed:


Size I crochet hook
18 oz. Tan worsted weight #4 yarn
2 oz. Rust orange worsted #4 weight yarn

Gauge: In pattern, 4 sts = 1 inch and 5 rows = 1 inch.

Row 1. With size I hook, ch 73 loosely. Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (72 sc made.)

Row 2. Ch 1 and turn, thermal st in each st across. (72 thermal sts made.)

Repeat row 2 until the piece is 2" long.



Begin opening shaping.

Row 1. Thermal st in each of the next 69 sts. Ch 1 and turn, leaving rem sts unworked. (69 sts made.) 

Row 2. Sl st in each of the next 2 sts. Ch 1 and thermal st in each rem st across. Ch 1 and turn. (67sts made.) 

Row 3. Thermal st in each of the next 66 sts. Ch 1 and turn, leaving rem st unworked. Ch 1 and turn. (66 sts made.)

Row 4. Thermal st in each of the 66 sts across. Ch 1 and turn. (66 sts made.)

Row 5. Thermal st in each of the next 65 sts. Ch 1 and turn, leaving rem st unworked. (65 sts made.) 

Row 6. Thermal st in each of the 65 sts across. Ch 1 and turn. (65 sts made.)

Row 7. Thermal st in each of the next 64 sts. Ch 1 and turn, leaving rem st unworked. Ch 1 and turn. (64 sts made.)

Row 8. Thermal st in each of the 64 sts across. Ch 1 and turn. (64 sts made.)

Row 9. Thermal st in each of the 64 sts across. Ch2, and turn. (64 sts made.)

Row 10. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Thermal st in each rem st across. (65 sts made.)

Row 11. Thermal st in each of the 65 sts across. Ch2, and turn. (65 sts made.)

Row 12. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Thermal st in each rem st across. (66 sts made.) 

Row 13. Thermal st in each of the 66 sts across. Ch2, and turn. (66 sts made.)

Row 14. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Thermal st in each rem st across. (67 sts made.)

Row 15. Thermal st in each of the 67 across. Ch3, and turn. (67 sts made.)

Row 16. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in the next ch.Thermal st in each rem st across. (69 sts made.) 

Row 17. Thermal st in each of the 69 across. Ch4, and turn. (69 sts made.)

Row 18. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 2 chs. Thermal st in each rem st across. Ch 1 and turn. (72 sts made.)

Row 19. Thermal st in each across. Ch 1 and turn. (72 sts made.)

Rows 20 - Repeat Row 19 until piece is 4" from row 17. End with a right side row.

Bag Bottom


Row 1. With wrong side facing Ch 1 and sl st in each of the next 15 sts. Ch 1 and sc in each of the next 42 sts. Do NOT Thermal st. (You want to create a fold edge as shown below.) Ch 1 and turn leaving the remaining 15 sts unworked. The ridge you create will be the right side of bag.



Rows 2-?. (Begin Thermal st once again.) Thermal st in each of the 42 sts across. Ch 1 and turn. Repeat row 2 until the piece is 8" from Bag Bottom Row 1. End with a right side Row. End off and weave in the end. *****

Bag Upper - Opposite Side

Note: This row only will be worked in the back loop only. (blo)

Row 1. With the wrong side facing and using tan yarn and H hook ch 15. Sc (Not Thermal st) in the blo of the 42 sts across the bag bottom. Ch 16 and turn. (Make sure the bottom ridge is on the right side.)

Row 2. Begin Thermal st once again. Sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each of the next 14 chs. Thermal st in each of the next 42 sts. Sc in each of the last 15 sts. Ch 1 and turn. (72 sts made.)

Row 3. Thermal st in each st across. Ch 1 and turn. (72 sts made.)

Repeat row 3 until piece is 4" from Bag Upper Row 1. Make sure to end on the side opposite the face opening as shown below.



Begin opposite side face opening.

Row 1. Thermal st in each of the next 69 sts. Ch 1 and turn, leaving rem sts unworked. (69 sts made.) 

Row 2. Sl st in each of the next 2 sts. Ch 1 and thermal st in each rem st across. Ch 1 and turn. (67sts made.) 

Row 3. Thermal st in each of the next 66 sts. Ch 1 and turn, leaving rem st unworked. Ch 1 and turn. (66 sts made.)

Row 4. Thermal st in each of the 66 sts across. Ch 1 and turn. (66 sts made.)

Row 5. Thermal st in each of the next 65 sts. Ch 1 and turn, leaving rem st unworked. (65 sts made.) 

Row 6. Thermal st in each of the 65 sts across. Ch 1 and turn. (65 sts made.)

Row 7. Thermal st in each of the next 64 sts. Ch 1 and turn, leaving rem st unworked. Ch 1 and turn. (64 sts made.)

Row 8. Thermal st in each of the 64 sts across. Ch 1 and turn. (64 sts made.)

Row 9. Thermal st in each of the 64 sts across. Ch2, and turn. (64 sts made.)

Row 10. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Thermal st in each rem st across. (65 sts made.) Row 11. Thermal st in each of the 65 sts across. Ch2, and turn. (65 sts made.)

Row 12. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Thermal st in each rem st across. (66 sts made.) Row 13. Thermal st in each of the 66 sts across. Ch2, and turn. (66 sts made.)

Row 14. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Thermal st in each rem st across. (67 sts made.)

Row 15. Thermal st in each of the 67 across. Ch3, and turn. (67 sts made.)

Row 16. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in the next ch.Thermal st in each rem st across. (69 sts made.) 

Row 17.Thermal st in each of the 69 across. Ch4, and turn. (69 sts made.)

Row 18. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 2 chs.Thermal st in each rem st across. Ch 1 and turn. (72 sts made.)

Row 19. Thermal st in each across. Ch 1 and turn. (72 sts made.)

Repeat Row 19 until the piece is 2" from row 18 above.

Handle-Make 1


With tan yarn and H hook. Ch 11.

Row 1. Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch across. Ch 1 and turn. (10 sc made.) 

Row 2. Thermal st in each st across. (10 thermal sts made.

Next rows. Rep row 2 until the piece is 88" to 90" long. End off leaving a 20" tail.

Using tail. Sew narrow end tog to form a circle, making sure to not twist.

Spread bag out and pin handle as shown below.

Fold the bag in half. Match handle sizes and pin in place.



Once everything is in place, use a darning needle and yarn to sew the handle to the bag. Pin sides, with right sides facing, together, leaving the face opening free. Sew sides closed.



With right sides still facing. Open bag to flatten side seams. Pin and sew the bottom side piece to the bag bottom as shown below.

Open bag to right side.



Finishing Face Opening

Rnd 1. Attach tan yarn in any open st in the face opening. Sc evenly around opening (making an even amount of sts.) I made 58 sts around mine.

Rnd 2. Attach Rusty orange yarn in any st on opening. Ch 1 and hdc in each st around. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st.

Rnd 3. Ch 1, (fphdc around next st, bphdc around the next st) around. Join to top of 1st st with sl st. End off and weave in the end.



Halter Holder


Row 1.With tan yarn, H hook and metal snap hook. Sl st into the top of the snap hook. Ch 1 and make 4 sc over hook. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2. Thermal st in each st across. Ch 1 and turn. (4 sc made.)

Rep row 2 until the piece is as long as you like. (I made mine about 7".) End off leaving a long tail.8 


Sew to the inside of the bag just above the center top of the face opening.



Mane

With rusty orange yarn, ch 56 and join to the 1st ch to form a circle being careful not to twist ch. 
Rnd 1. Ch 1 and loop st in each ch around. Join to the 1st lp st with a sl st.



Rnd 2. Ch 1, (loop st in each of the next 7 sts. Make 2 lp sts in the next st) around. Join to the top of 1st st made on rnd. (63 lp sts made.)

Rnd 3. Ch 1, (loop st in each of the next 8 sts. Make 2 lp sts in the next st) around. Join to the top of 1st st made on rnd. (70 lp sts made.)

Rnd 4. Ch 1, (loop st in each of the next 9 sts. Make 2 lp sts in the next st) around. Join to the top of 1st st made on rnd. (77 lp sts made.) End off leaving a long tail to sew to face.



Pin Mane in place and sew to face as shown below.



Finishing Face Opening-Beading Rnd


Attach rust orange yarn in any st in face opening. Ch 4 and sk 1 to 2sts. Dc in the next st. (Ch 1, sk 1 to 2 sts and dc in the next st. End with ch 1 and sl st into the 3rd ch of the beg ch4. End off and weave in the end.

Make a 24" tie anyway you prefer. (I made an I-cord.) Weave cord through the beading row.

Ears - Make 2

With tan yarn make a magic circle.

Rnd 1. Ch 1 and make 6 sc in the circle. Do NOT join but do mark 1st st. 

Rnd 2. Make 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc made.)

Rnd 3. (Sc in the next st, make 2 sc in the next st) around. (18 sc made.) 

Rnd 4. (Sc in each of the next 2 sts, make 2 sc in the next st) around. (24 sc made.) 

Rnd 5. (Sc in each of the next 3 sts, make 2 sc in the next st. (30 sc made.) 

Rnd 6. Sc in each st around. (30 sc made.)

Rnd 7. (Sc in each of the next 3 sts, sc next 2 sts tog for a dec) around. (24 sc made.) 

Rnd 8. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Make dec) around. (18 sc made.) 

Rnd 9. (Sc in the next st, dec) around. (12 sc made.)

End off leaving a long tail and sew to mane as shown below.
