Ewok Car Seat Cover





Materials Needed

16 ounces of Dark Brown 4-ply worsted weight yarn (One pound of Red Heart Super Saver shown), 2 ounces of tan worsted weight yarn, scraps of black worsted weight yarn. 43” of ¼” elastic. Graph paper (1” shown.) Leather colored felt (20” by 15,” piece, can be purchased at most fabric stores by the yard.) Fabric glue. Leather lacing, opt. (can be purchased in the jewelry section at JoAnns.)



Gauge – 3 stitches = 1” and 3 rows = 1”

Body of Blanket

Row 1: With Dark brown and size I hook, chain 91, single crochet in 2nd chain from hook. (Double crochet in next chain, single crochet in next chain) across. End with double crochet in last stitch. (90 stitches made.) Chain 3 and turn.

Row 2: Beginning chain-3 counts as stitch now and throughout. Single crochet in same stitch as turning chain-3 for an increase. (Double crochet in next single crochet, single crochet in next double crochet) across until last stitch. In last stitch make double crochet and single crochet for another increase. (92 stitches made.) Chain 3, turn.

Row 3: Double crochet in same stitch as turning chain-3 for an increase. In next double crochet make single crochet. (Double crochet in next single crochet, single crochet in next double crochet) across until last stitch. In last stitch make single crochet and double crochet for another increase. (94 stitches made.) Chain 3, turn.

Row 4: Single crochet in same stitch as turning chain-3 for an increase. (Double crochet in next single crochet, single crochet in next double crochet) across until last stitch. In last stitch make double crochet and single crochet for another increase. (96 stitches made.) Chain 3, turn.

Row 5: Single crochet in same stitch as turning chain-3 for an increase. (Double crochet in next single crochet, single crochet in next double crochet) across until last stitch. In last stitch make double crochet and single crochet for another increase. (98 stitches made.) Chain 3, turn.

Row 6: Single crochet in same stitch as turning chain-3 for an increase. (Double crochet in next single crochet, single crochet in next double crochet) across until last stitch. In last stitch make double crochet and single crochet for another increase. (100 stitches made.) Chain 3, turn.

Row 7: Single crochet in same stitch as turning chain-3 for an increase. (Double crochet in next single crochet, single crochet in next double crochet) across until last stitch. In last stitch make 2 double crochets. (102 stitches made.) Chain 1, turn.

Row 8: Single crochet in first double crochet. Double crochet in next stitch, single crochet in next stitch. (Double crochet in next single crochet, single crochet in next double crochet) repeat across. End with double crochet in last stitch. (102 stitches.) Chain 1, turn.

Repeat Row 8 until piece is 8” long. (Count the following rows to be exact later.) Once piece is 8” do not end off, but chain 1 and turn.

Begin face shaping

Row 1: Work in pattern across first 61 stitches, leaving 41 stitches unworked. (You will end with a single crochet.) Chain 1, turn. (61 stitches made.)

Row 2: (Single crochet next 2 stitches together) twice. Work in pattern across each of the next 57 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (59 stitches made.)

Row 3: Work in pattern across 55 stitches. Double crochet next 2 stitches together. Single crochet last 2 stitches together. Chain 1, turn. (57 stitches made.)

Row 4: Single crochet in first 2 stitches together. Work in pattern across the last 55 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (56 stitches made.)

Row 5: Work in pattern across 54 stitches. Decrease over last 2 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (55 stitches made.)

Row 6: Single crochet first 2 stitches together. Work in pattern across each of the next 53 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (54 stitches made.)

Row 7: Work even in pattern across each of the 54 stitches. Chain 1, turn.

Row 8: Single crochet first 2 stitches together. Work in pattern across each of the next 53 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (53 stitches made.)

Row 10: Single crochet first 2 stitches together. Work in pattern across each of the next 52 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (52 stitches made.)

Rows 11-12: Work even in pattern, chaining 1 and turning at the end of each row.

Row 13: Work even in pattern across each of the 51 stitches. In last chain make and increase. Chain 1, turn. (53 stitches.)

Row 14: Work even in pattern across each of the 53 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (53 stitches.)

Row 15: Work even in pattern across each of the 52 stitches. In last chain make and increase. Chain 1, turn. (54 stitches.)

Row 16: Work even in pattern across each of the 54 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (54 stitches.)

Row 18: Make increase in first stitch. Work even in pattern across remaining stitches. (56 stitches.)

Opposite side

Row 1: Count down 34 stiches as shown above and place a marker (you should be in a double crochet, if not place marker in next double crochet.) Attach Brown yarn in same stitch. Chain 1, single crochet in same stitch. Work in pattern down remaining 33 stitches. (34 stitches) Chain 1, turn.

Row 2: Work in pattern across next 30 stitches. (Decrease over next 2 stitches) twice. Chain 1, turn. (32 stitches.)

Row 3: (Make decrease over next 2 stitches) twice. Work in pattern over remaining stitches. Chain 1, turn. (30 stitches.)

Row 4: Work in pattern across 28 stitches. Make decrease over last 2 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (29 stitches.)

Repeat Row 24 until piece is 5 1/2” from face opening chains.

Row 1: Crochet the first 2 stitches together for a decrease. Work in pattern across until the last 2 stitches. Crochet the last 2 stitches together. Chain 1, turn. (100 stitches)

Round 2: Chain 1, (single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches. Make a single crochet decrease over each of the next 2 stitches) around. Join to first single crochet with slip stitch. (60 stitches.)



Round 3: Chain 1, (single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Make a single crochet decrease over each of the next 2 stitches) around. Join to first single crochet with slip stitch. (54 stitches.) End off and weave in end.

Ears- Make 2 each



Inner ear- make 2

With Tan and I hook chain 8.

Row 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from hook and in each of the next 5 stitches. Make 3 single crochet in the end chain. Working on opposite side of chain, single crochet in each of the next 6 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (9 stitches made.)

Row 2: Single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Make a half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. (Make 2 double crochet in next stitch) 3 times. Half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Single crochet in each of the last 4 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (15 stitches made.)

Row 3: Single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Make a half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in next stitch. (Make 2 double crochet in next stitch) 6 times. Double crochet in next stitch. Half double crochet in next stitch. Make 1 single crochet in each of the last 4 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (24 stitches made.)

Attach Dark brown in last stitch worked.

Row 4: Chain 1, single crochet in same stitch and in each of the next 6 stitches. (Make 2 half double crochet in next stitch) 4 times. Half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. (Make 2 half double crochet in next stitch) 4 times. Single crochet in each of the last 7 stitches. End off and weave in end. Set aside. (32 stitches made.)

Outer Ear

With Dark Brown and I hook chain 8.

Row 2: Single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Make a half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. (Make 2 double crochet in next stitch) 3 times. Half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Single crochet in each of the last 4 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (15 stitches made.)


Row 3: Single crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Make a half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in next stitch. (Make 2 double crochet in next stitch) 6 times. Double crochet in next stitch. Half double crochet in next stitch. Make 1 single crochet in each of the last 4 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (24 stitches made.)

Place wrong side of inner ear to wrong side of outer ear. Using Dark brown yarn, single crochet through both thicknesses to join ears. You may have to make increases to keep ears flat. End off leaving a long tail to sew to blanket. Set aside.

Belly

With tan yarn, chain 13.

Round 1: Make 3 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook marking first single crochet. Single crochet in each of the next 10 chain. Make 3 single crochet in end chain marking first single crochet. Working on opposite side of chain, single crochet in each of the next 10 chain. Do not join rounds.

Round 2: (Make 2 single crochet in next single crochet) 3 times. Single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. (Make 2 single crochet in next single crochet) 3 times. Single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches.

Round 3: (Make 2 single crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in next stitch) 3 times. Half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Double crochet in each of the next 6 stitches. Half double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches.

With black yarn and I hook, chain 2.

Round 1: With black worsted weight yarn and I hook chain 2, make 6 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook. Join to first single crochet to form a ring.

Round 2: Chain 1, make 2 single crochet in joining and in each single crochet around. Join to first single crochet with slip stitch. (12 single crochet.)

Round 3: Chain 1, make 2 single crochet in joining. Single crochet in next single crochet. * Make 2 single crochet in next single crochet. Single crochet in next single crochet. Repeat from * around. Join to first single crochet with slip stitch. (18 single crochet.)

Round 4: Chain 1, *single crochet in next 2 single crochet. Make 2 single crochet in next single crochet. Repeat from * around. Join to first single crochet with slip stitch. (24 single crochet.) End off leaving a tail to sew to blanket later. Set aside.

Toes – Make 6

With black yarn and I hook, chain 2.

Round 1: With black single crochet to form a ring.

Round 2: Chain 1, make 2 single crochet in joining and in each single crochet around. Join to first single crochet with slip stitch. (12 single crochet.) End off leaving a 12” tail to sew to blanket later. Set aside.

Finishing

Sew belly to blanket as shown below.




Sew 4” down from face opening and 10 ¼” from each side.

Felt Cowl

With 1” graph paper, (I downloaded printable graph paper in 1” squares from the internet and printed 4 pages and then taped them together) draw out the pattern below if you purchased an ebook or print out the attached pdf. Pin the pattern to the felt and cut out the piece.






Glue pin and sew cowl to blanket as shown below.



Let dry.

Pin and sew ears to cowl edge as shown below. With Leather thong or brown yarn make 3 x’s and a few (---) along the crown of the cowl as shown below.



Sew paws to blanket as shown below.



Prep ends of elastic by sewing them together being careful not to twist elastic.

Attach dark brown yarn in any stich on outside edge. Lay elastic along side edge. Being careful not to twist elastic, single crochet over the elastic and into the blanket as shown below.



Continue attaching elastic around the entire blanket edge. Join to first single crochet with slip stitch.

Stretch over car seat. Cute.
